With the start of school soon (gasp!) upon us, kids are getting their supplies together, finishing summer reading and soaking in these last few weeks. Teachers are finalizing their lesson plans, decorating their rooms and eagerly awaiting their students to return – at long last – to the classroom.
At ECT, we’ve been hard at work preparing for school, but not in the way you might think .
JCPS is adding two new schools to the district for the 2022-23 school year and we’ve been working with them all summer so that by this time next year, they are ready to roll.
I recently sat down with Tom Shaughnessy, Controls Inside Sales, about the project. ECT is installing the building automation control systems for both buildings. Knowing how long these buildings will stand and the kind of wear and tear they take each year, it’s important we look at the best systems for the long term.
One thing you don’t see a lot in this area but both schools will have is geothermal heating and cooling.
Per Wikipedia, “Geothermal energy is the thermal energy in the Earth’s crust which originates from the formation of the planet and from radioactive decay of materials in currently uncertain but possibly roughly equal proportions.”
This is an energy efficient way to manage the systems and with comfort of children being of utmost importance, doing it in an energy-efficient manner is paramount.
Geothermal can be a more-expensive option on the front end, but over the long term, this type of system will save energy dollars and positively affect the bottomline, which could benefit the kids in the JCPS schools, allowing for more programs and needed services .
